Hera Oktadiana earned her Ph.D from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She also received CHE (Certified Hospitality Educator) from the American Hotel & Lodging Association.

She has twenty years experiences in the tourism and hospitality education, with 10 years in the managerial position, starting as a program coordinator in Trisakti Institute of Tourism, then advancing to consultant for a consulting firm in hotel training, until appointed as the Head of Hotel Management and Tourism departments at Bunda Mulia Tourism Academy, BINUS University and BINUS International. She was also a Deputy Manager of Hotel and Tourism Management International Program of Trisakti Tourism Institute She joined James Cook University, Australia as a Visiting Scholar (tourism research) in 2017, then later as an Adjunct Associate Professor.

Her research interests include tourist behaviour, Muslim tourists, Islamic/Halal tourism, and tourism education. She has published in various prominent tourism journals such as Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management Perspectives, Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, International Journal of Tourism Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education. She has also been actively reviewing manuscripts for various tourism journals. 

She is an Associate Editor of International Journal of Tourism Cities (IJTC), and Editorial Board of Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research (APJTR), Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights (JHTI), Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing (JTTM), and several Indonesian Tourism journals. She guest-edited the special issue of International Journal of Tourism Cities “Contemporary Trends, Issues and Challenges in Southeast Asian Tourism Cities”. 

Hera had received a number of research awards and other academic/ non-academic recognitions. Notably, she is the Vice President of the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA).
