Hong Zhu
Senior Director of Global Education
University of Notre Dame

Hong Zhu leads the Global Engagement team and the Study Abroad team at Notre Dame International. She provides leadership to short-term global engagement programs and to the growth, management and administration of the University’s undergraduate education abroad offerings, including semester and summer programs, research, internships, and services. In both capacities, she works collaboratively with world area leaders and the Global Gateways and Centers to ensure that our global education programming, both inbound and outbound, aligns with Notre Dame’s mission and NDI’s strategic plan. She is responsible for the operational effectiveness in these global programs. As a member of the NDI leadership team, Zhu is responsible for the development and execution of global strategy efforts on behalf of UND.

Zhu joined the Immigration Services Office at the University of Notre Dame in 2005 as an International Student Advisor and in 2008, she joined the Office of International Studies (which became Notre Dame International in 2010) as assistant director, overseeing a variety of study abroad programs in China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, France, United Kingdom, and Greece. Since 2017, she has served as director of global engagement programs, overseeing a portfolio of programs for incoming non-degree seeking international students, which helped significantly grow Notre Dame’s global outreach.

Zhu holds an Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction and an M.A. in English from Virginia Tech. She received a B.A. in English from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
