Prof. Dr. Iman El-Mahallawi earned her first degree BSC in Engineering from Cairo University, July 1981, MSc from Cairo University in Dec. 1983, PhD degree from The University of Leeds in Jan 1987. Currently, Professor of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University adjunct Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department in the British University in Egypt (BUE) and working on full-time basis for BUE 2006-2011 and 2020-current. Founding Director of the Centre for Renewable Energy CRE at the British University in Egypt. Holding CEng and CSci titles, as well as being a Fellow Member of the IOM3 Royal Institute. H index number is 17 with (98 peer reviewed papers Scopus cited publications, and 113 Google cited publications). Former Head of the Supreme Council of Universities Promotion Committee for Materials/ Minerals & Petroleum Specialisation. Attended/ chaired/ reviewed/ presented more than 70 international and national conferences. Earned Cairo University Excellence Award 2014, and Distinguishment Award 2018.

Full scholarship at Leeds University between Jan 1984 and Jan 1987 for PhD. Annual Publications Award Cairo university since 2010 till 202022. Award for best submission for innovation in teaching by Unit of Teaching and Learning Projects; Ministry of Higher education Egypt. Best supervised PhD Cairo University 2014 and 2016. Cairo University Research Excellence Award 2014 and Academic Excellence Award 2018. Visiting Professor Sept. 2006 Freiberg Technical University, Foundry Institute; Oct 2013 to Institute of Metallurgy I-MET Claustahl; Oct 2014 Giesserei Institute GI Aachen. Current job description includes:  teaching undergraduate and postgraduate classes;  leading research groups;  writing research proposals;  reviewing activities: journals, books, conferences, workshops and articles;  member of Standards and Quality Assurance National Committee;   offering consultations to more than 50 Egyptian industrial and service facilities on manufacturing, failure analysis, materials development, risk analysis and management, material validation and compliance with national standards and industrial training; conducting research and industrial services relevant to metallurgical industries, since she earned her PhD degree in 1987; designed, started and directed the Programme of Mechanical Engineering at BUE in collaboration with Loughborough University.  Leader of many research groups on a number of significant topics in the field:  1) Steelmaking, Foundry, manufacturing and heat treatment research groups, 2) Advanced alloys and materials and nanodispersed composites research groups, 3) Renewable energy materials research groups, 4) Sustainability of materials & renewable energy projects.

Attended workshops organized by BUE and lectured by Loughborough’s experts (Dr. Andrew Wilson- Teaching & Learning Expert ) on leadership, staff development, teaching and learning according to British Requirements, developing programme ILOs, and module specifications and ILOs linked to programme, exam design, marking and assessment criteria, double marking and grading according to British requirements.
