Dr. A. Kumaravel is working as Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean, K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode. He has completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Salem, Tamil Nadu during 1986 – 1990. He has completed his M.Tech. in Industrial Tribology from IIT Madras in the year 2004 and PhD in Machine Design from IIT Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu in the year 2008. He has total teaching experience of 33 years in his credits. He delivered more than 20 invited and guest lectures in various sponsored FDPs/Workshops/Seminars and Institutions.    

He has guided 12 PhD research scholars and published more than 60 Research and Review papers in reputed International Journals publisher like Springer, Taylor & Francis, Elsevier, etc. He has also presented more than 30 Research papers in reputed International Conferences. He has received Grant – in – Aid of more than 150 lakhs from various funding agencies like AICTE, DST, ICMR, CSIR etc. He has completed 3 Govt. Funded projects and consultancy project worth of 2 Lakhs. He visited Australia and Singapore to present a research paper in the year 2007 and Singapore in the year 2023.

He served as an Overall Coordinator for National Board of Accreditation (NBA) at K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology. Five Programmes got Provisional Accreditation under Tier – I Category (Washington Accord) in the year 2014.          Coordinated to prepared the report for Securing 99^th Position in NIRF 2017.

He Established the Research Laboratory for doing research in the field of Metal Matrix Composites, Characterization of Natural Fibers, Characterization of Cellulose Nanocrystals and Nano Fibrils. Also, Established the AICTE IDEA Lab during the year 2021 – 2023 to provide all facilities under one roof, for conversion of an idea into a prototype.

 He had been appointed as technical committee member for conferences, reviewer for papers and projects, and external examiner for PhD student etc. He is presently serving as an Academic Editor, Mathematical Problems in Engineering, Hindawi Publications and reviewer for many journals such as Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Carbohydrate Polymers, Fuel, Materials Research, Industrial Textiles, Fibers and Polymers, Materials Today Proceedings etc.

He has been honoured with Best Engineer Award 2016 from The Institution of Engineers (India) – Salem Local Centre in September 2016. He has also been honoured with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Award for Scientific Excellence 2016 in MARINA Labs Research and Development, Chennai in October 2016.

He established the Institution of Engineers (India) – Mechanical Engineering Student Chapter in 2022. He is an instrumental in establishing the ASME Student Section at K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology.
