Synopsis

Selene Itzel Vergara Segura is a Mexican academic and author with contributions in education, sustainable development, social responsibility and literature. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in Social Sciences, an M.A. in Administration of Educational Institutions and a B.A. in Spanish Literature. Selene teaches at Tecnológico de Monterrey and Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, where she focuses on topics such as ethics and design and evaluation of educational projects. She has contributed to the promotion of environmental conservation and education as Alumni and Outreach Coordinator at Ecology Project International, where she has established strategic collaborations and led projects with various organizations, as well as specializing in social impact assessment. In addition, Selene is the author of several literary works and has been recognized in the Encyclopedia of Literature in Mexico and in an anthology of extraordinary South Californian women scientists.

Biography

Selene Itzel Vergara Segura is a Mexican academic and author who has made contributions in education, sustainable development, social responsibility and literature.

Born in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, Selene holds a PhD in Social Sciences with emphasis in Sustainable Development and Globalization from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur; a Master's degree in Administration of Educational Institutions and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Literature, both from the Tec de Monterrey.

Selene teaches at the Tec de Monterrey and the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, where she teaches subjects related to ethics, social responsibility and the design and evaluation of educational projects.

Selene has worked in the promotion of environmental conservation and education as Alumni and Outreach Coordinator at Ecology Project International. In this role, she has forged strategic partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including educational institutions, private sectors, civil society organizations and citizens. She has been substantively involved in projects with organizations such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), German Cooperation (GYZ), Alumbra Innovations, International Community Foundation (ICF), among others. She has specialized in impact measurement methodologies for social projects, as well as in the development of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) plans and in the co-creation and coordination of educational projects that promote sustainability. She also supervises field work, volunteers, ecoclubs, internships and social service programs from the vision of fostering citizen participation with youth.  

In addition to her commitment to education, Selene has contributed to literature and culture with the following outreach, research and children's literature publications.

  • Terciopelo (2021) - Published by the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, children's literature.

  • Atemba: cartas misionales para niños y niñas (2021) -Aimed at young readers with a historical theme.

  • Pioneras y forjadoras del valle de Santo Domingo (2021) -A historical work published by the Archivo Histórico Pablo L. Martínez, which sheds light on the women who have contributed to the development of the region.

  • Fortin (2017) -An album book on endemic animals published by the Instituto Sudcaliforniano de Cultura.

  • Modesto C. Rolland: builder of modern Mexico (2017) (Editor) Collaboration between the ISC and UABCS, this book delves into the life and contributions of Modesto C. Rolland.

  • Las huellas de los primeros pasos: A History of Childhood in Literature through a Transdisciplinary Dialogue (Kindle Edition) -Explores the history of childhood in literature through a transdisciplinary dialogue that sheds light on the process of shaping social representations.

In addition to her literary production, Selene was included in the Encyclopedia of Literature in Mexico and in an anthology of Sudcalifornianas Científicas Extraordinarias entitled De pequeña a Científica, published by the PACE-CONAHCYT program.
