Selecting Your Application Pathway

Setting Your Project Up for Success

For 2026, we’ve introduced a series of considered refinements to our categories and application questions. These updates ensure the awards remain relevant as education continues to evolve, while helping applicants clearly showcase the impact and distinctiveness of their work.

Before selecting your award category, please review the pathways below. Choosing the correct pathway ensures your project is evaluated fairly and against the most appropriate criteria. Please note that not all categories include every pathway combination, the available options will be clearly indicated on each category page.

Projects are assessed based on both the type of organisation leading the initiative and the stage of development. The evaluation criteria differ depending on these factors, so selecting the right pathway is important.

Each project may only be submitted to one award category, and applications must be submitted in English.

If substantially identical projects are submitted to multiple categories, the QS Reimagine Education Steering Committee will retain one entry and remove the others. We strongly recommend selecting the category that most closely aligns with your project’s primary focus.

Pathway 1: Organisation Type

Academic

For projects led by:

  • Higher Education Institutions
  • Research Institutes
  • Primary Schools and Secondary / High Schools (public or officially recognised private institutions)
  • Education Authorities (e.g. Ministries or Departments of Education)

Enterprise

For projects led by:

  • EdTech companies
  • Corporations
  • Associations / Foundations
  • NGOs / NPOs

Pathway 2: Stage of Development

Early-Stage

Choose this option if your project is in pilot, early rollout, or initial implementation.

Typically:

  • The project has been operating for less than 3 years
  • It may be limited to a specific cohort, institution, or context
  • Evidence of impact is emerging
  • There is a clear plan for measurement and future growth

Mature

Choose this option if your project has moved beyond initial pilots and demonstrated sustained outcomes.

Typically:

  • The project has been operating for more than 3 years
  • It has expanded across multiple cohorts or contexts
  • There is clear, longitudinal evidence of impact
  • The model has proven sustainable or repeatable

There is no advantage to selecting one stage over the other. Projects are assessed relative to their chosen stage.

Timeframes are indicative only. Please select the stage that most accurately reflects the current maturity of your initiative.
