Dr Eszter Lukács is currently Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations at Széchenyi István University (SZE), Győr, Hungary. She has also held the position of Associate Professor at SZE since 1997. Dr Lukács has overseen the rapid development of Széchenyi István University’s internationalization since 2017.

Under her leadership, SZE now offers over 40 English-taught programmes, a near eightfold increase since 2017. In the last six years, the number of international students, now originating from 80 nations, has shown a sixfold increase and currently represents 10% of the total student body. Under Dr Lukács’s oversight, SZE has been listed on QS World University Rankings.

In 2022, Dr Lukács was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary and in 2024 she was awarded the St. László Medal. She has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Tempus Public Foundation since 2023 and, since 2021, President of the International Committee of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference. From 2008, she has been a Board member of the United Nations Association of Hungary, and since 2020 a Governing Council Member.

To date, Dr Lukács has 66 academic publications to her name.
