Jorge Alvarez is an academic innovator in Mexico and an Associate Professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Tampico since 2015, in the Department of Sciences in the School of Engineering and Sciences. With over thirty years at the institution, he has served as Director of Telecommunications and Networks and Director of the Department of Computational Technology.


Graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero, he holds a Master of Science and an MBA from the Tecnológico de Monterrey. He participates in educational volunteer work and is a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers and the Mexican Mathematical Society.


He has led research projects in educational technologies, such as virtual reality, and presented at conferences like the IEEE World Engineering Education Conference. Jorge is an influential figure in higher education in Mexico, improving education with technology and innovation.

Jorge Alvarez began his academic journey at the Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero, where he earned his degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1988. He continued his education with a Master of Science in 1992, and later obtained an MBA from the Business School of Tecnológico de Monterrey in 1998.

His commitment to education goes beyond the classroom, actively participating in Education Volunteer initiatives since June 2021. Additionally, he is an active member of the American Association of Physics Teachers, Mexico Chapter, and the Mexican Mathematical Society.

In the field of research and educational innovation, Jorge has led several projects funded by the Institute for the Future of Education. His contributions include research on the use of educational technologies, such as immersive virtual reality videos and video games, to enhance the learning process.

As an author, Jorge Alvarez has presented his research at renowned conferences, such as the IEEE World Engineering Education Conference. His works cover topics ranging from the use of virtual reality in teaching to programming logical controllers using remote labs and virtual reality.
