Leo Chan completed
his Diploma in Design Studies at Hong Kong PolyU School of Design, BA (Hons) in
Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, and MA in Typographic Studies from London
College of Communication at the University of the Arts London. Additionally, he
holds a Certificate of Specialisation in Entrepreneurship & Innovation from
Harvard Business School.
Leo has gained
notable recognition for his exceptional video projects that have been featured
at distinguished short film festivals in Berlin, Hungary, and London. His
designs and artistic creations have been exhibited at renowned events such as
London Zoo Art Fair 2004, London Fashion Week 2006, and Seoul Design Fair 2010,
as well as being featured in VOGUE magazine (UK). Leo has also collaborated
with various artists at international art fairs and cultural exhibitions where
he showcased his unique talents in diverse areas such as designs,
illustrations, installations, and art pieces.
Leo's exceptional
talent in graphics and new media art has been recognized by Perspective
magazine, which included him in their "40 under 40" list of
outstanding artists and designers two times in 2009 and 2016. The Hong Kong
Government also acknowledged Leo's creative brilliance and selected him as one
of the 50 new generation Hong Kong designers. This accolade granted him the
opportunity to showcase his work at the "Hong Kong: Creative
Ecologies" exhibition at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.
Prior to his
artistic endeavours, Leo served as the Art Director for the Dubai-British
fashion label Bodyamr. Upon returning to Hong Kong in 2006, he worked as a
Senior Graphic Designer and played an integral role in brand identity
development, packaging, and advertising design for the Hong Kong fashion group
I.T Apparels and its subsidiary brands. Leo was later appointed as the Chief
Graphic Designer for Crystal International Group and demonstrated his
exceptional leadership skills by leading the trend forecast and design
direction for the Japanese fashion brand UNIQLO UT collections.
Leo is the founder of the
acclaimed On Your Mark Design Laboratory, established in London in 2004. The
Lab has been distinguished with over 50 international awards in diverse design
categories. Their impressive client roster includes Nike (Asia Pacific) for the
Germany World Cup in 2006, LVMH Group for the Ruinart champagne art windows
during the Hong Kong Art Basel in 2013, Anderson Electric Car brand logo
design, and the Global Youth Leaders Summit Beijing 2018 visual identity. Leo
has also been appointed as Design Director for the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Design
Biennale in 2014 and 2016, the British Council SPARK 2019 UAL Global Pavilion,
and the Zhuhai Design Week 2021 Hong Kong Pavilion.
More recently, Leo has devoted
his efforts towards cultural, arts, and design development and education. His
vast experience in the field has made him a sought-after guest speaker at the
Affordable Art Fair (HK), K11 Art Foundation, Hong Kong Trade Development
Council, RTHK, and as a judge of the Taiwan International Student Design
Competition and the admission panel for Hong Kong Design Centre Design
Incubation Programme. Leo is also currently serving as the Programme Leader for
MA Design Management at the University of Arts London and as a Board Member of
the Hong Kong Federation of Design and Creative Industries.
