Dr. Meghna Ramaswamy joined the University of Saskatchewan (USask), Canada, in 2018
as the Director of the International Office to advance the international
research and partnerships initiatives at the USask. She is a strong
advocate for sustainable development and the role it plays in International
Education and has authored numerous papers on food security, interdisciplinary
research, partnerships, transformative leadership, and international education.
Meghna has been recognized by the Government of Saskatchewan, Canada, for her outstanding leadership on international education as well as by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), for her leadership, dedication and valuable contribution to International Relations Learning Communities in Canada. Under Meghna’s leadership, her office was also awarded the "Education for Sustainable Development Recognition Award" by the Regional Centre for Excellence in Saskatchewan, Canada. She currently serves as President of the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation, Advisory Board member of the Indo-Canadian Education Council, and Steering Committee member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Network on Higher Education and the SDGs. In additon, she is the only elected Canadian woman to serve on the Commission on International Initiatives for the Association of Public Land Grant Universities (APLU) which supports over 200 land grant universities in US, Canada and Mexico.
Prior to joining the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, Meghna provided oversight of the Centre for AIDS Reagents (CFAR) at the National Institutes of Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC), a government health agency, in the UK where she orchestrated key partnerships with the European Commission, the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is a scientist by training and has a BSc in Microbiology (Kings College London), MSc in Virology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and a PhD in Clinical Infection (University College London). In her spare time, she enjoys birding and collecting antiques.
