Dr Peter Mitchell’s service in higher education spans almost 20 years. Initially a British Council language assistant, he was employed mainly in academia, eventually becoming associate professor and founding an academic department at a QS-250 university. Peter earned his BA (Hons) with distinction in Liberal Arts from Durham University. He holds a masters with distinction in Language Teaching from Tambov State University, a doctorate from the University of Derby, and a masters with distinction in Teacher Education from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the UK’s Royal Society of Arts and Chartered Institute of Linguists. Peter has experience in higher education leadership and partnerships, in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North and South America. He has supervised diverse doctoral students from Antigua to Zimbabwe, and taught over 70,000 learners from 190 countries and territories in collaboration with Coursera. His research currently focuses on teacher education.
