Dr Romas Malevicius is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Marketing and Programme Director of the online Marketing MSc at King’s Business School. He is passionate about marketing, branding, and sustainability. He consults for businesses and NGOs on sustainability and marketing. He also serves as an advisory board member and mentor for the Association for Learning Design and Education for Sustainable Development (ALDESD) in collaboration with UNESCO IESALC.
Romas is an expert in education for sustainability and has published in academic journals. He has also contributed international book chapters on topics such as sustainability initiatives and student engagement, education for sustainability (EfS) and sustainability and marketing. Romas’s case studies on teaching and EfS have been published by the National Union of Students, EAUC (The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education) and key organisations in the UK higher education sector, such as Advance HE and QAA.
Romas's contributions to teaching and sustainability have earned him several awards and recognitions, including Vice-Chancellor’s Awards in 2011 and 2018 (at Anglia Ruskin University and the University of Salford). He was shortlisted for the Vice-Chancellor’s Outstanding Alumni Award in 2018 at Anglia Ruskin University, in the Alumni Service to Society category. Romas was also a finalist in the Green Gown Awards UK & Ireland in 2013 and 2018 for his work with communities, students, and staff.
At King’s, Romas has been nominated for the King’s Education Awards 2023 and 2024. His work has also been recognised by the Dean’s Award 2023 in two categories: Outstanding Contribution to Education and Outstanding Contribution to Impact, Engagement, and Connectivity.
Research interests
Marketing and Sustainability
Investigating how companies curate their identities to reflect sustainability commitments and align them with UN Sustainable Development Goals. This includes analysing how organisations communicate their sustainability efforts and the impact of these messages on brand perception and consumer trust.
Branding strategies
Investigating how brands can utilise social media platforms to cultivate and strengthen their identity as sustainable organisations. This involves researching strategies for crafting authentic and captivating content that resonates with environmentally conscious consumers while ensuring transparency and avoiding deceptive practices.
Education for Sustainability
Investigating how universities embed sustainability within their campus operations, curriculum, community engagement, and cultural practices. By exploring the integration of sustainability principles across these domains, the research aims to understand and enhance the role of higher education institutions in fostering a sustainable future.
Career highlights
- Romas started his academic journey in Lithuania, completing a bachelor's and master's degree in Thermal Engineering at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) while working in the building maintenance industry.
- In 2008, he relocated to the UK to pursue a bachelor’s degree in International Business Strategy at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).
- Romas was awarded a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Education for Sustainability in Business and Management at ARU, and he completed it in 2019.
- Before joining King’s, Romas taught undergraduate and postgraduate students at Anglia Ruskin University, London College of Fashion, and the University of Salford.
