Prof. Sankar Ganesh PalaniĀ is a Professor of Environmental Biotechnology and the Coordinator of the Graduate School in Global Sanitation at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. He has 25 years of sandwich experience in the industry and academia across the SAARC, Middle East and Europe.

Prof. Sankar Ganesh Palani received his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from Pondicherry (Central) University, India. Before his academic tenure in India, he had post-doctoral training at the National Institute of Applied Sciences, Toulouse, France. After joining BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, in 2009, Prof. Ganesh started teaching ecology, environmental science, environmental biotechnology, waste management, sanitation technology, and gene toxicology. His research focuses on waste and wastewater treatment, biomethanation, and biohydrogen production. Prof. Ganesh has been involved in several academic, translational, and societal projects funded by the Swiss Red Cross, the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Science & Technology, the Government of India, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), the Government of Andhra Pradesh and BITS Pilani. He has published four books, 21 book chapters, and 178 research papers in reputed international and national journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Ganesh is a "Faculty-preneur" and the Co-Director of 'Almac ProTech' a startup company that has spun off from his research on high-rate thermophilic anaerobic digestion.
