Dr Rodney CHU, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Social
Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, has held numerous key roles
related with Learning and Teaching domain of the University, including
Chairperson of the Department’s Learning and Teaching Committee since 2012, members of
Faculty Learning and Teaching Committee by position since 2016, and appointed member of
University Learning and Teaching Committee since 2023.
His educational research interest focuses on pedagogy design for blended learning and flipped classroom. His own endeavors to integrate immersive learning experiences into the curriculum design via employing CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) setting resulted in his winning of local and international recognitions. As the leader of his CSD team, in the past one year or so, he has extended the endeavors from the university to two different directions: to the local community via close collaboration with secondary schools in Hong Kong, and international collaborations and sharing to introduce their award-winning and continuous developing TIMS framework, highlighted by the latest platform Virtual Assistant TIMS (VAT) that involves AI chatbot in day-to-day learning and teaching activities for multi-disciplinary subjects. Within a short time span, he has given workshops in University of Toronto, McGill University, York University, public talks in the annual conference of European Foundation for Management Development [EFMD] held in Munich, Germany, the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library of Robarts Library of University of Toronto, as well as the Canadian International Conference on Education at Toronto Metropolitan University. Currently, he is collaborating with University of Toronto as well as Goldsmith of University College London in curriculum design in Coursera courses and social work subjects, and working on research project with international collaborators.
