
Asst. Prof. Ts. Aw Yoke Cheng is a pragmatic higher education
professional in Digital Business, Management, and Technology, with
expertise across conventional teaching and learning, open and distance
learning (ODL), and technical and vocational education and training
(TVET). With over two decades of experience, he has excelled as an
academic leader, quality assurer, senior administrator, and researcher,
both locally and internationally.
Aw is affiliated with various
esteemed professional and intellectual organisations, including the
Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM), the World Scientific and
Engineering Academy and Society (WSEAS), the International Association
of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT), the
International Economics Development Research Center (IEDRC), the Society
of Digital Information and Wireless Communications (SDIWC), the
Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) as a Professional Technologist,
and holds the Microsoft Certified Professional certification. He is also
recognised as a certified and accredited corporate trainer by the Human
Resource Development Corporation in Malaysia.
Furthermore, Aw
actively serves as an editorial and scientific member for several
renowned international journals and publication bodies. His scholarly
and research works in the fields of e-Commerce and e-Business have
garnered close to 400 citations, with an h-index of eight (8), according
to Google Scholar. Notably, he has successfully completed various
government-funded research projects supported by the Ministry of Higher
Education (MOHE) including the Malaysian Global Reach initiatives under
the National Higher Education Strategic Plan Phase II 2011-2015 (PSPTN
2).
Aw's expertise in curriculum development and academic quality
assurance began during his tenure as the Programme Manager at a local
higher educational institution. He later transitioned to a local private
university, where he gained exposure to the Grade 11 and 12 curriculums
under the Ontario Ministry of Education in Canada. Subsequently, he
took on the role of Programme Leader (Postgraduate and Research) at
another private university offering dual-award UK degrees in Kuala
Lumpur. Finally, he assumed the position of Head of Centre for Academic
Development at a full-fledged dual-mode university.
Locally, Aw
actively participates in various government appointments in Malaysia. He
is serving as an accredited panel assessor ("Penilai Bertauliah" -
highest rank within the Panel of Assessors category) with the Malaysian
Qualifications Agency (MQA) for close to two decades. Recently, he has
also been appointed as a panel member in the Technology and Technical
Accreditation Council (TTAC) of MBOT. Additionally, he is recognised as a
dual-training system expert and panel member by the Department of
Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources. His expertise has also
earned him a place in the National Industrial Expert Directory (DPIN).
On an international level, Aw serves as an International External
Verifier appointed by City and Guilds International, UK, covering
countries in Southeast Asia. He currently serves with two appointments
by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) namely
the Systems Council; and the Technical Committee on Learning Technology.
Previously,
Aw held the position of Director – Compliance, Quality, and TVET for a
government-linked corporation owned by the Ministry of Domestic Trade,
Cooperatives, and Consumerism (KPDNKK). Currently, he serves as the
Registrar cum Acting Chief Executive at a University College owned by a
conglomerate in Kuala Lumpur.
