Breaking Barriers in STEM: Making Inclusion and Diversity Count, Queen Mary University of London

CAISE reimagines diversity and inclusion in STEM by fostering innovative education to address inequalities. It embeds inclusive, evidence-based, pedagogies across disciplines, with interventions including cultural immersion into disciplinary-specific language, and celebrating diverse STEM leaders so students see themselves represented. Its impact is evident in improved National Student Survey (NSS, UK) scores and rich qualitative feedback. The project spans UK-based provision at QMUL, a diverse Russell Group (research-intensive) university and transnational education (TNE) via partnership with China, highlighting global relevance. Institutional and professional body support has enabled successful Faculty-wide piloting to expand reach and shape inclusive practice on a wider scale.

Bridging the Gap- the General Studies Program at AUW, Asian University for Women

Project Summary
The two-year GS programme is designed for Rohingya girls and young women denied access to formal education due to conflict, displacement, and exclusion. Growing up as refugees in camps along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border, and excluded from higher education in both countries, they face immense barriers and are highly vulnerable to sexual violence and child marriage. The GS programme offers a comprehensive academic foundation for transition to AUW’s Pre-Undergraduate and Undergraduate programmes within a safe environment. It aims not only to prepare scholars but also to empower students as advocates for social justice and transformative role models.

Data Guardians: A Māori Escape Room on Indigenous Sovereignty, Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka | The University of Otago

Project Summary
This project based at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka (The University of Otago) uses a culturally grounded educational escape room to teach rangatahi Māori about indigenous data sovereignty. Rooted in Kaupapa Māori pedagogy, the activity uses puzzles and storytelling to explore the protection of taonga Māori (cultural treasures), intellectual property, and Māori authority over data. Originally designed for youth, it has been successfully delivered to researchers, professionals, and community groups. By combining traditional knowledge and learning methods with contemporary challenges, the project offers an engaging, innovative model for education that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and indigenous leadership in the digital age.

Foundation Year, Warwick Business School

Project Summary
Launched in 2015, the Foundation Year (FY) is a pioneering widening participation initiative designed to increase access to business education for students from under-represented backgrounds. With a focus on potential over prior attainment, the programme offers guaranteed progression to undergraduate study, wrap-around academic and pastoral support, and a curriculum co-created with students. Fully funded tuition and generous bursaries remove financial barriers, while small class sizes and dedicated tutors foster belonging and resilience. Now in its tenth year, the Foundation Year has transformed lives, diversified the WBS community, and become an prime example of inclusive, future-focused education.

Innovative Vision Pro-based Applications for Helping Learners with Disabilities, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Project Summary
Disabled learners, especially those with motor impairments, often face significant barriers in accessing education. Initiated through a competition based on real needs from our collaborating school for disabled students, this project aims to improve educational accessibility. In collaboration with our partners, we are currently in the early development stage of two Apple Vision Pro applications to enhance the learning of disabled students: VisionLearn, an immersive video-based platform that enables learners to virtually explore the world with interactive quizzes; and Mathion, an accessible, eye-controlled calculator for hands-free engagement with mathematics.

King's Postgraduate Research Fellowships, King's College London

Project Summary
The King’s Postgraduate Research Fellowships (KPRF) project aims to provide equitable access to paid research opportunities for students from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds. Designed as a structured summer research programme, KPRF connects students with academic supervisors to undertake impactful research, build academic confidence, and explore postgraduate study pathways. This early-stage project seeks funding to evaluate pilot activity, refine its model, and develop a scalable, institution-wide framework. By addressing barriers to research participation, the project supports King’s commitment to inclusive education and aims to influence sector-wide practice in widening access to postgraduate research careers.

Project Summary
NeuroScreen is an innovative “Accessible Classroom” concept designed to ensure that students with paralysis or severe neurological disabilities are not excluded from education. This system combines BCI (Brain-Computer Interface), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies to enable students to follow lessons using not only visual focus but also brain signals, interact with educational materials, and even control classroom parameters such as lighting, sound, display, and temperature. The developed “Accessible Classroom” is a concept that incorporates both IoT-based hardware and AI-powered software technologies.

Night School: Empowering Refugee Teachers through Inclusive Training, Taylor's University, Malaysia

Project Summary
The Night School Project is a pioneering teacher training initiative for refugee educators in Malaysia, addressing educational inequality through inclusive, trauma-informed, and tech-integrated pedagogy. Co-designed with 60 Teachers of Refugees (ToRs), the six-month programme includes modules on teaching strategies, curriculum planning, assessment, and digital fluency. Unlike traditional workshops, it emphasizes work-based learning, mentorship, and community-building via the World School Platform. With dual international certification and contributions from global experts, the project empowers ToRs with skills and recognition—transforming them into agents of change. The Night School reimagines education as equitable, inclusive, and rooted in the lived realities of marginalized communities.

The No One Left Behind project at UNU Yogyakarta offers a holistic, scalable model for inclusive higher education, focusing on students with disabilities and those from low-income backgrounds. Professional Master’s in Inclusive Education (National Network) - Profei, São Paulo State University - Unesp

Project Summary
Profei is a professional master’s program operating through a network of 23 Brazilian public universities, coordinated by São Paulo State University - UNESP. It provides continuing education for public basic education teachers from the perspective of inclusive education, strongly integrating research, teaching, and community outreach. The program uses an accessible Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), assistive technologies, and pedagogical practices based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) . Since 2020, it has impacted over 1000 teachers, bringing significant transformations to classroom practices and school management. Profei has established itself as a national benchmark in teacher training.

Projek BacaBaca, Taylor's University

Project Summary
Projek BacaBaca is a university-led, research-informed literacy programme addressing learning poverty among children aged 6–12 in Malaysia. Pairing each child with a trained coach for 32 weeks, the project delivers personalised reading support online or via phone calls to overcome digital and geographic barriers. Grounded in whole language and socio-cultural theory, BacaBaca focuses on meaning-making, fluency, and confidence. Enabled by BacaLabs, its digital platform, the model has reached 700 children across 15 schools and communities, with 85% demonstrating improved proficiency. Projek BacaBaca offers a scalable, inclusive, and relationship-rich solution to reimagine how foundational literacy is delivered in under-resourced settings.

Provision Sight Africa, Strathmore University

Project Summary
Visually impaired individuals often face barriers in education and the workplace due to tools and systems that are not designed with their needs in mind. Traditional books, limited access to Braille, and inaccessible environments restrict their learning and independence. Our project bridges this gap by introducing a smart wearable device that harnesses spatial computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. It enables users to read printed text, identify people, and navigate both indoor and outdoor spaces independently. This innovation re-imagines inclusive education by promoting autonomy, dignity, and equal opportunity for learners with visual impairments.

RISE: Refugee Integration through Support and Education, INTI INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Project Summary
Refugee Integration through Support and Education (RISE) was a student-led initiative by INTI International University that empowered over 200 refugee children in Kajang, Malaysia through free tuition, food support, and cultural inclusion. In partnership with ElShaddai Refugee Learning Centre and Alpro Pharmacy, RISE addressed educational gaps and food insecurity among marginalized children. With over 1,200 volunteer teaching hours and 200 food packs distributed, it promoted empathy, equity, and civic responsibility. Aligned with INTI’s values and the UN SDGs, RISE proved that compassion, collaboration, and student activism can create lasting impact its legacy continues to inspire inclusive, community-driven change.

Scout is a multilingual, AI-powered student agent developed by UNSW to provide equitable, 24/7 access to student life and support information. It is designed to reduce barriers for international, first-in-family, and students with diverse learning needs by helping them learn effectively, navigate university life, access wellbeing support, and build a sense of belonging. Scout offers clear, instant answers to questions about assessments, policies, and services. It simplifies complex language, integrates into UNSW’s Learning Management System, and delivers consistent support regardless of time or location. Scout is not just a chatbot, but a digital equity tool that fosters inclusion and confidence.

SolarSPELL Offline Digital Libraries, Arizona State University

Project Summary
Arizona State University’s SolarSPELL Initiative empowers offline learners globally with localized digital libraries and the internet-ready skills needed to make informed decisions, increase their self-reliance, and improve their quality of life. The world’s first solar-powered, offline digital library, SolarSPELL brings curated, multimedia educational content to schools and communities without reliable internet or electricity. Rugged, portable and designed for digital novices, each library creates its own offline Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing learners to connect using any Wi-Fi-enabled device. Through a collaborative train-the-trainer model, SolarSPELL empowers local educators, librarians, healthcare professionals, and even agriculture extension agents to champion digital and information literacy.

Tech for All Minds: Empowering Neurodivergent Youth through Inclusive Training, Strathmore University

Project Summary
Neurodivergents in Tech is an early-stage, inclusive education initiative that equips neurodivergent learners aged 18+ with core IT skills such as web programming, mobile app development, game development and workplace readiness. Piloted at iLabAfrica, Strathmore University, the program provides tailored instruction, mentorship, and employment pathways through partnerships with different employers in Kenya. It is one of the first interventions in East Africa to address the intersection of neurodiversity, education, and employability in the tech sector.

The Belonging Game: changing the way students connect, University of Exeter

Project Summary
The Belonging Game is an innovative, research-informed card/board game designed to foster inclusion, empathy, and intercultural connection among university students. Co-developed by international academics at the University of Exeter in response to belonging and integration challenges, the game provides a safe, structured space for learners from diverse backgrounds to share lived experiences and build meaningful relationships. It aims to address awarding and progression gaps by enhancing students' sense of belonging, a key predictor of academic success. Project Summary
Ibn Tofail University’s Center for Students with Disabilities pioneers a bold, transformative approach to inclusion that goes far beyond legal mandates. Since 2022, the university has dismantled structural barriers by offering a fully equipped Inclusive Support Space, advanced assistive technologies, and the innovative HANDI-AMÉNAGEMENT digital platform tailored to individual needs. With over 500 beneficiaries and more than 120 trained staff, this initiative promotes academic success, social integration, and professional empowerment through accessible AI coding programs and Morocco’s first Bachelor’s in Para-sports Professions. By embedding sustainability and inclusion into every facet of campus life.

UNSW Women in Construction, UNSW Sydney

Project Summary
The construction industry is a traditionally male-dominated industry, with women’s low representation remaining unchanged for decades. Most existing efforts focus on the policies of construction companies, and ignore early career preparation and continuous career development support for women. This project uses a “life cycle” approach, and engages female high-school students, women studying construction in universities, and women working in the construction industry, to promote in-depth understanding about the industry’s diverse job opportunities for women, help them establish long-term career goals, and support them to successfully progress their career and obtain leadership roles.

Virtual Exchange Program (VEP) at MUBS, Modern University for Business and Science

Project Summary
The Virtual Exchange Program (VEP) started in 2015 as a result of the partnership between MUBS and the Graduate School of Education at Stanford. This program, developed in collaboration with esteemed international institutions such as Arizona State, Princeton, Saint Jose State, Cambridge, and East Carolina universities, enables students to enroll in virtual courses collaboratively taught across borders. The program uses advanced collaboration technologies, including web videoconferencing, virtual whiteboards, shared text annotation, discussion boards, and chat rooms, around a challenging problem-based learning curriculum developed in close cooperation with scholars from the US, UK, and Europe.

Project Summary
Groundbreaker Talents tackles key skill gaps and gender inequality in tech. We offer intensive, fully-funded Software Engineering and AI residential training to young African women (18-25) from financially tough backgrounds. Our residential program provides vital technical and soft skills. It also includes full residential support (safe housing, meals, health services), mentorship, and job placement. With a 93% graduation rate and 100% employment within seven weeks, graduates see a 26x income increase. They move above the poverty line and support their families.

The Accessible Me Academy is a flipped-classroom eLearning platform built to transform digital learning inclusion. It helps professionals embed accessibility in their content creation, delivery, and team practices through bite-sized modules, Q&A-driven live sessions, and hands-on workshops. Project Summary
EHCP Plus is an AI-powered programme designed to support local authority professionals in drafting Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Built by SEND experts, it streamlines first-draft writing while embedding statutory guidance and quality principles — helping reduce admin burden, improve confidence, and free up time for direct work with families. It includes a four-month wraparound onboarding programme and is being embraced by councils across the country. EHCP Plus is a smarter, values-led way to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Excuela: Microlearning for Low-Connectivity and Low-Income Populations, Excuela

Project Summary
Excuela is a mobile-first learning platform that brings high-quality, inclusive education to frontline workers and low-income communities across Latin America. Designed for low-bandwidth and offline environments, it transforms organizational content into interactive microlearning experiences, accessible from basic smartphones without constant internet access. By combining behavioral design, local language adaptation, and data analytics, Excuela empowers users to learn at their own pace while providing organizations with actionable insights. From financial literacy to public health, Excuela bridges learning gaps in the hardest-to-reach populations; unlocking personal growth, workforce development, and systemic inclusion through radically accessible digital education.

Floreo: Empowering Neurodivergent Learners Through VR, Floreo

Project Summary
Floreo is an evidence-based virtual reality platform designed to help neurodivergent individuals build real-world skills in a safe, engaging environment. With over 200 immersive lessons, Floreo supports areas like communication, emotional regulation, and daily living skills. Coaches (educators, therapists, or family members) guide sessions using a browser-based platform, while Learners use a compatible VR headset. Floreo is used in homes, schools, and clinics across the U.S. and internationally.

Genio Notes, Genio

Project Summary
Initially designed for students with disabilities, Genio Notes has helped 100,000s of learners improve their note-taking and study habits and is now used by a diverse range of learners, including those with neurodivergencies, first-generation students, and adult learners. Built on learning science principles, Genio Notes helps students actively engage with class material. It captures audio, provides transcripts and AI outlines, and allows users to add notes and slides. AI-generated quizzes support retrieval practice, while organizational tools help with time management. The results are clear: 45% report improved GPA, and 75% report improved confidence. especially first-generation, ESL, and adult learners.

Geração Caldeira - Bridging Brazilian Youth to the Future of Work, Instituto Caldeira

Project Summary
Geração Caldeira is a social impact program that empowers low-income youth (ages 16–24) through free, high-quality training in technology, sales, marketing, and design. Developed by Instituto Caldeira, it combines online learning, in-person immersion, financial support, and direct job placement. The program has trained over 10,000 young people, with 250+ already employed and 92% pursuing higher education. Youth engage with Brazil’s largest innovation hub and 500+ partner companies. Geração Caldeira is a scalable, end-to-end model—from awareness to employment—designed to break cycles of exclusion and connect underrepresented youth with the future of work and economic opportunity.

INCLUEDU: AI-Powered Inclusive Sign Language Education at Scale, INCLUEDU

Project Summary
INCLUEDU is the first AI-powered platform in Latin America that teaches sign language through real-time gesture recognition. It addresses the systemic exclusion of over 1.5 billion people with hearing loss by providing accessible, adaptive, and scalable learning. Our freemium platform includes over 50 sign languages, gamified modules, and instant feedback. With 10,000+ users and 15 institutional partners, INCLUEDU has proven impact: 95% communication improvement and 85% user retention. Recognized by CONADIS, USAID, and MIT Innovators Under 35, we are scaling across LATAM to ensure sign language becomes a right—not a luxury.

OERX, National e-learning center

Project Summary
OERx is Saudi Arabia's flagship open-education platform, housing more than 65,600 rigorously reviewed resources across 590 subjects from 136 institutions. With 60% Arabic content, bilingual metadata and WCAG-compliant design, the library serves students and educators nationwide, including rural and disabled learners. Since launch it has recorded 1.39 million interactions and a 42% weekly return rate. Rural traffic grows 25% monthly thanks to an offline-sync mobile app, while remediation of 9,800 files led to a 38% jump in screen-reader usage. Surveys report that 78% of users access previously unreachable subjects and 62% gain confidence.

Okademy: boosting employability through digital skills, IT Open Talk Africa (Itot Africa)

Project Summary
Okademy is a digital learning project that equips unemployed youth and women with the skills to find or create jobs in the digital economy. Through practical, market-driven training programs, we aim to improve employability, boost entrepreneurship, and support economic inclusion in the Grand Katanga region. The project targets 300 beneficiaries annually, offering over 50 courses in digital skills, communication, marketing, and business. We also plan to expand our training centers to three additional cities. Okademy provides a scalable and locally adapted model to tackle youth and women’s exclusion from economic opportunities.

Ona AI, Ona AI

Project Summary
Ona AI is a generative AI-powered assistant that helps learners with disabilities access education tools without needing a screen, keyboard, or mouse. Using multilingual voice, sign language, and gesture recognition, users can study, write, research, and complete assignments across platforms already central to learning, like Canvas, Coursera, Zoom, Notion, and Google Workspace. Designed for blind, motor-impaired, neurodivergent, and speech-challenged learners, Ona AI works on mobile, desktop, and browsers. It’s affordable, works offline, and adapts to slurred speech, non-standard signs, and low literacy, empowering every learner to move at their own pace, on their own terms, with dignity and independence.

STEAM4All: Inclusive Tech-Enabled Education for Visually Impaired Students, Vision Empower Trust

Project Summary
Vision Empower implements Phase III of CF STEAM4All, a comprehensive tech-enabled STEAM education initiative serving visually impaired students across special schools in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal. The project creates bilingual, inclusive content and open educational resources, deploys innovative assistive technologies (Hexis electronic readers and IRIS tactile audio devices), and establishes accessible experience zones in each state. Through intensive teacher training programs and a mentored Learning Management System (Subodha), the initiative strengthens special school education systems while demonstrating scalable models for inclusive education. The program directly impacts 1,700 VI students and 600 teachers through hands-on interventions.

iLearn, NGO Osvitoria

Project Summary
iLearn is a free Ukrainian online platform developed by NGO Osvitoria to support high school students in preparing for the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT), a university entrance exam. The platform offers live webinars, on-demand video lessons, and interactive tests aligned with the national curriculum. iLearn is designed to serve all learners, regardless of geography, income, or displacement due to war. With over 1.3 million users, it bridges the educational gap between privileged and underserved students, ensuring that access to quality test preparation is a right - not a luxury. iLearn empowers knowledge-based opportunity in times of crisis.

The AI Sandbox in Digital Learning is a national initiative established by the National eLearning Center to accelerate adoption of AI in education. It provides developers, startups, and researchers with technical infrastructure, anonymized datasets, and access to classrooms to pilot AI tools under expert guidance and national AI policies. Through its structured pipeline from evaluation to impact assessment and scaling it derricks innovation, generates evidence for policy-making, and supports partners across K–12, higher education and lifelong learning. Seeing the Invisible: Empowering Nursing Students in Microbiology Learning, The University of Hong Kong

A PhotoVoice activity empowers nursing students to assess the cleanliness of self-selected sites on campus using mobile devices, followed by reflective presentations and peer-led discussions. Complementing this are scenario-based animated videos on foodborne pathogens and 360-degree videos documenting essential microbiological techniques. These e-learning resources are provided in advance via Moodle to support self-paced learning and enrich in-class interaction. By making abstract concepts visible, relatable, and clinically meaningful, the project significantly enhances students’ motivation, engagement, and autonomy—laying the groundwork for broader application across health science disciplines.

Dual Impact: Genomics Education through Peer-Led Innovation, The University of Hong Kong

Project Summary
High-performing senior nursing students were selected as peer tutors for a genomic science tutorial focused on gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. In collaboration with academic staff, they co-designed and delivered engaging learning tools, including a Padlet board for real-time feedback, animated videos on genetic mechanisms, and a DNA/RNA-themed board game to reinforce the central dogma. Additional resources included a clinical genotype analysis video and a genomic word hunt to strengthen key terminology. Evaluation data showed significant improvements in student engagement, knowledge retention, and interest in future careers as genetic nurses or educators—demonstrating the dual impact of this peer-led innovation.

Engineering students often arrive at the lab underprepared. Our project helps students gain familiarity with the experiment setup and background theory by leveraging AR and AI. Using their smartphone or tablet, students can navigate through a digital twin of the experiment setup in AR and practise experiment procedures under the guidance of an AI-tutor. By incorporating AI, we add a dynamic feedback layer that transforms laboratory preparation into a dynamic experience. Our AI-tutor gives instructions, asks probing questions, and provides hints. Afterwards, these interactions are summarised by AI into a short report for instructors to understand their students’ laboratory preparation.

Immersive VR can transform learning. However, it’s costly, fragmented, and inaccessible. GenAI arrived in classrooms but most remain siloed and pedagogically thin. Unity builds need engineers and are hard to customize. Academic pilots inspire but don’t scale. Classlet flips the model. A no-code platform where educators build, adapt, and share modular VR scenes with GenAI avatars, scenes that guide, respond, and measure learning. Deployed across Asia, Classlet raised tech adoption by 16.4% and saved over HKD 690K. Now, we’re launching a global consortium to co-create and benchmark reusable, inclusive, outcome-driven VR learning. The future isn’t more content, it's more impact.

The difference is that the musically timed inputs are curriculum-based, with the learner inputting academic materials into diagrams, charts and other visuals from academic textbooks.

Student Wellbeing Initiative is a Vinschool system-wide effort engaging students from Grades 1 to 12 in promoting holistic wellbeing. Over five months, the initiative engaged nearly 21,000 participants, including students, parents, and teachers. A total of 5,509 student-led initiatives were submitted, with 2,622 successfully implemented. Focusing on Cognitive, Social, Emotional, and Physical wellbeing, the initiative aimed to raise awareness, build healthy habits, and foster student leadership. Students enhanced not only their personal wellbeing and key competencies such as collaboration, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence through active participation, but also championed a climate where wellbeing became a shared priority across grade levels.

Visual English is a structured learning platform for teaching English as a second language (ESL) to young learners. It uses over 20,000 curated images and GIFs to support the direct method of English teaching, where students learn by speaking about what they see. Designed for use in real classrooms by teachers, it reduces preparation time while boosting student engagement and oral fluency. Visual English is currently used in schools and will soon expand to home learning through AI-powered speaking avatars.

Fun, engaging, understandable and personalized math learning platform that uses videogames and AI to identify the learning needs of the elementary school students, promote their curiosity and desire to continue learning while developing the XXI century skills. Participants gained strategies for goal setting, emotional regulation, and collaboration. The program enhances cognitive flexibility and metacognition, while aggregated data informs institutional decisions to improve engagement, wellbeing, and productivity.

Leadership Coaching Augmentation, Harvard University - Next Level Lab

This project investigates how managers can support team members transitioning into novel roles though coaching modalities informed by learning transfer research findings from the Next Level Lab. The study extends previous research on developmental relationships by evaluating traditional coaching methods against a newly developed AI agent coach. Professionals act as inspiring mentors supporting students in building a professional network. The game's "Chaos Meter" demonstrates how disinformation creates information bankruptcy—destroying the very trust manipulation requires to function. By experiencing firsthand how digital deception harms communities, players develop ethical frameworks for responsible information sharing, empathy for manipulation victims, and commitment to truthful discourse in their own digital interactions.

This course equips students with the understanding of ethical concepts to subsequently apply these concepts to real-life civic issues.Therefore, the course examines the nature of ethics, its understanding across different cultures, and how it is manifested insocial and governance institutions. Students are asked to reflect on the assumptions that they hold on these matters. They are then provided with the tools to understand various and contradictory perspectives on these important issues. Humble Discovery is a new methodology to curate humility by immersing students in a project featuring a complex or wicked problem they need to develop solutions for. Students are equipped with clinical psychology and anthropology tools to undertake a behavioural systems analysis of stakeholders within the circles of influence of the problem. In the process of trying to understand the problem, they uncover biases and prejudices and that most of their assumptions are wrong. They discover that understanding and solutions come from deep listening and co-creating with stakeholders, and humility is accepting it takes a village to solve complex problems.

To do so, they will need to bring together diverse groups of people by applying key human skills such as compassionate communication, creative thinking, complex problem-solving, inclusive engagement, and continuous adaptation. Currently, neither universities nor employers sufficiently equip students or employees to address these needs. The TRANSECTS partnership is filling that training gap, offering innovative transdisciplinary international learning labs, intercultural education curricula, and a community of practice across three continents that is reimagining transdisciplinary sustainability education.

Transforming Student Behavior through Campus-Driven Sustainability Literacy Campaigns, Abu Dhabi University

Project Summary
This student-led initiative transforms Abu Dhabi University’s campus into a living lab for sustainability education by integrating real-world habits, challenges, and learning into daily student behavior. From interactive recycling games and visual messaging to community-based campaigns and symposia participation, the initiative equips students with sustainability literacy that extends beyond theory. It emphasizes habit change, peer leadership, and interdisciplinary thinking as tools to address climate and consumption challenges. Launched in 2023, the project has already influenced student behavior in terms of water use, plastic reduction, and energy consciousness, making it a replicable model for engaging youth in actionable sustainability education.

The Power of Partnerships

A partnership around place and program - the RMIT-Wyndham Business & Technology Studio and the AI for Business program, RMIT University

Project Summary
This is a first of its kind partnership in Australia between RMIT University and Wyndham City Council, bringing together the two communities together through partnership, program and place. Post-COVID, the notion of a place (the Business & Technology Studio) in the local municipality encourages the gathering of RMIT staff and students living in Wyndham to deliver interactions with the local businesses and community. These interactions happen through programs that deliver authentic learning for students (through project placements), staff research that has impact, and program outcomes that benefit the local community. Planned over 2024, the project commence its first program - AI for Business - in the Business & Technology Studio in 2025. The program consists of 12 AI sprints for selected local businesses from Wyndham, where they will work with RMIT staff and students to help address their business challenges through AI.

Catalysing Transformative Partnerships at Scale: A University-Wide Transdisciplinary Electives Program, University of Technology Sydney

Project Summary
The UTS transdisciplinary electives program is Australia’s only initiative that embeds transdisciplinary learning at scale, across all undergraduate degrees. It enables students to tackle complex, real-world challenges in collaboration with industry partners and peers from over 100 disciplines. Since 2022, more than 7,000 students partnered with leading organisations including Microsoft, Australian Red Cross, UNICEF, Regen Studios, ServiceRocket, City of Sydney, Lane Cove Council, Miro and Stockland. Partners contribute throughout the program lifecycle, including co-designing challenge briefs and learning resources, engaging directly with students in class, providing feedback on final proposals, and offering input into the program review and enhancement. Guided by academic and industry experts, students apply cutting-edge transdisciplinary collaboration methods to create innovative solutions to partner challenges. The success of the program lies in its mutual value creation—students develop career-enhancing transdisciplinary skills, while partners gain fresh perspectives and actionable proposals, fostering a thriving, collaborative innovation ecosystem.

Design for Change: Better Health for All and Sustainability in Healthcare, Queensland University of Technology

Project Summary
Design for Change is an internationally recognised education initiative led by QUT School of Design, fostering deep collaboration across universities, government, industry, and communities to tackle the critical issues of sustainability and accessibility in healthcare. Partners co-develop immersive study tours, design sprints, symposia, and public exhibitions, forming a unique three-part learning model: global symposium + intensive bootcamp/design sprint + community exhibition. These engagements create reciprocal value: students earn credit and skills; institutions embed internationalisation; and stakeholders access research-informed, scalable health innovations. Design for Change removes barriers to international education by providing equity-focused scholarships (e.g., New Colombo Plan) and prioritising participation of students from regional and lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Digital transformation in Zain: the MDT Program by IE University, IE University

Project Summary
In 2023, Zain Group partnered with IE University to implement the Master in Digital Transformation (MDT), a fully online, modular program designed to equip professionals with critical skills for today’s technology-driven landscape. The collaboration addresses urgent digital leadership, technology, and business transformation gaps. IE brings academic excellence and digital learning expertise, while Zain integrates the program into HR, talent mobility, and strategic planning. MDT offers stackable certifications leading to a master’s degree, combining asynchronous coursework with live sessions, coaching, and data-driven intervention. This flexible model enables employees to tailor their learning and apply new skills at work. The partnership is embedded within Zain’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity University and aligns with its strategy to become a digital-first enterprise. To date, over 2,000 learners have been onboarded, with a 92% completion rate and 78% applying new skills. IE and Zain are setting a new benchmark in corporate-academic collaboration through purpose-driven learning.

EGADE Innovation Community, EGADE Business School, Tecnológico de Monterrey

The EGADE Innovation Community is a multi-partner initiative that connects over 100 companies to bridge academia and industry through a purpose-driven network. It promotes collaboration across sectors through best practice exchange, co-creation, and joint problem-solving. Monthly sessions are held at member companies in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, including BBVA, McKinsey, Amazon, and Bayer. These sessions focus on topics like decarbonization, clean energy, and innovation culture, offering real engagement between industry and academia. More than just dialogue, it serves as a living innovation lab where leaders learn, act, and shape the future of innovation in Latin America. Each session features a keynote by the host, a guest speaker, and peer discussion. The community is based on four pillars: knowledge, networking, co-creation, and challenges. EGADE Business School provides a neutral, trusted space for members to share experiences and tackle challenges collaboratively, generating impact beyond the classroom.

Entrepreneurship Mindset Bootcamp: A COIL Collaboration Across Continents, Deakin University

Project Summary
What began as a single Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) experience between students at Deakin University (Australia) and the University of Texas at Dallas (USA) has evolved into a worldwide initiative that highlights the power of partnerships to reimagine international education. Using the low-cost, scalable COIL model, Entrepreneurship and Creative Thinking students co-developed entrepreneurial ideas online while building intercultural competence, creativity and global teamwork skills. The collaboration did not require integrating enrolments or university systems. The pilot’s success led to the expansion of COIL programs at both universities and later inspired engagement from faculty and administrators across seven countries. Through symposia, workshops, and follow-on partnerships, the project is helping spread the COIL model to institutions in France, England, Sweden, China, and India. It demonstrates how a single collaboration can spark widespread institutional change and empower students to become agile, internationally minded problem solvers ready for the future of work.

MPUConnect: A Comprehensive Talent Development Ecosystem Through Sino-Lusophone Strategic Partnerships, Macao Polytechnic University

MPUConnect is a strategic initiative at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) to foster inclusive academic development and innovation through strategic partnerships across Lusophone countries. It addresses critical gaps in academic access and development through: 1. Talent Development: MPUConnect supports students and educators through transnational interdisciplinary programmes aligned with regional priorities such as healthcare, multilingual technologies, smart cities, and trade relation. 2. Collaborative Research: Joint laboratories advance research in AI, public health, urban innovation, and linguistics, promoting cross-border knowledge exchange and innovation. 3. Novel Hydrogen Production, Storage and Transportation for Clean, Renewable Energy, American University of Sharjah

Project Summary
This project is a strategic partnership between AUS and the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), supporting the UAE's Net Zero 2050 initiative by advancing green hydrogen generation and storage. AUS brings academic and research expertise, while SNOC contributes industrial experience and infrastructure to enable sustainable hydrogen solutions. AUS leads research and development through laboratory work, prototype creation and student training in electrolysis and system optimization. It also focuses on the synthesis of advanced materials, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), porous organic polymers (POPs) and engineered alloys, using techniques like ultrafast laser material processing. SNOC offers real-world applications, contributing industry knowledge, energy data and facilities to pilot-scale testing. It also helps define commercialization pathways and supports alignment with existing energy infrastructure. This combination bridges academic innovation with industrial application to improve efficiency, reduce costs and support policy development—ensuring hydrogen technologies are viable, impactful, and ready for scale.

Pearl Sullivan Engineering IDEAs (Immersive Design Engineering Activities) Clinic, University of Waterloo - Faculty of Engineering

Project Summary
The IDEAs Clinic began with a puzzle: why were top-performing first-year engineering students stumped by how real things worked? They could code and solve equations but struggled with physical scale, tools and how parts fit together. What was missing wasn’t intellect. It was experience. Launched in 2015, the IDEAs Clinic brings hands-on learning into the curriculum from day one through physical design challenges, real tools and team-based problem solving. It is powered by strong partnerships. AtkinsRéalis supports core infrastructure and programming, engaging over 8,500 students in 2024. Brookfield Renewable, Canadian Nuclear Labs and Microsoft co-create Innovation Challenges, contributing mentorship and domain-specific problems in sustainability, nuclear energy and health tech. The N.S. Robertson Foundation funds an international sustainability fellowship connecting students with municipal partners like Halton Region. Faculty integrate activities into coursework while students help design and deliver programming. Together these partners connect education to practice and inspire engineering with purpose.

Teacher Education Alliance for AIED: Scaling AI-Integrated Preparation, National Taichung University of Education

Project Summary
Founded and led by National Taichung University of Education in 2024, the Teacher Education Alliance for AIED is a national initiative uniting 29 teacher education universities, all 22 local education departments in Taiwan, and 47 Professional Development Schools. The partnership aims to integrate AI meaningfully across teacher preparation. Universities co-develop AI-integrated curricula, revise coursework, and embed AI tools into instructional design and practicum implementation. Local education departments coordinate regional implementation and policy alignment. Professional Development Schools provide authentic settings for AI-based teaching practice and school-based research. Together, these partners drive a three-tiered strategy: curriculum innovation, clinical practice integration, and system-wide alignment through the AIGS model (AI for Education: Institutions–Governments–Schools). This structured collaboration enables scalable and sustainable transformation of Taiwan’s teacher education system.

Transformative Learning Through Global Strategic Partnerships: IE Capstone Project, IE University - IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs

The Capstone Project is the flagship experiential learning program of our School, built entirely on strategic collaborations with global partner organizations—from international institutions and NGOs to private sector actors. Each year, the program engages 60+ organizations, 40 projects, and 250+ students, turning the traditional thesis into a consultancy-style, partnership-driven initiative. Final-year students from Master's and undergraduate tackle pressing, real-world challenges presented by institutions such as the European Parliament, UNICEF, IFC, and Ashoka. These partnerships are co-designed to deliver mutual value: students develop professional skills and impact portfolios, while organizations receive tailored, evidence-based insights and solutions. With a scalable and replicable structure, the Capstone Project redefines the learning journey, placing collaboration, innovation, and impact at the heart of academic outcomes. The result is a model that not only enhances student learning but also contributes to solving global policy and development challenges—making Capstone a benchmark for transformative, partnership-based education.
