Omar Abdulghafoor is an Associate Professor and chair of
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department at the American
University of Kurdistan. He received his MEng and PhD in Telecommunication
Engineering from the National University of Malaysia.
Prior to joining AUK in July 2019, he
worked in a number of international universities starting in 2005, in both the
education and research sectors, at various job levels. He began as a lecturer
at Multimedia University, went on to become assistant researcher at the
National University of Malaysia, and then became Deputy Dean of Undergraduate
Students’ Affairs at the College of Engineering of Al-Madinah International
University in Malaysia.
Moreover, Omar is professionally
registered as a Chartered Engineer, CEng, and International Professional
Engineer, IntPE, with the UK Engineering Council, a Chartered Scientist with
the UK Science Council, International Professional Registration Advisor, IPRA,
with the Institute of Engineering and Technology, IET-UK and ABET Program
Evaluator with the American Board of Engineering and Technology.
His research interests include cognitive radio networks, radio resources
management for wireless networks, TV White Space, 5G-based smart cities, and
game theory applications in 5G mobile communications.
A dedicated, dynamic and highly
successful Chartered Engineer, CEng –UK-, Chartered Scientist –CSci-UK, ABET
Program Evaluator, ABET PEV-USA, International Professional Registration
Advisor (IPRA-IET) and International Professional Engineer IntPE who combines a
strong academic background, PhD in Telecommunication Engineering, with a proven
track record in leadership roles in evaluating and developing of engineering
curriculum in accordance with the Washington Accord, EAC, ABET and
Outcomes-Based Education approach.
Attentive to detail with a logical and
analytical approach to solving complex engineering problems and leading complex
engineering activities with a demonstrated history of working in the higher
education industry in both academic and research sector.
I have around (16) years of
teaching/research experience in a number of Malaysian Universities such as
Multimedia University, The National University of Malaysia, and Al-Madinah
International University.
The best achievement to me, is my
successful leadership as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Madinah
International University. I was able to lead the Faculty of Engineering at a
very difficult time with very limited resources, and finally managed to get the
first accreditation for the programs available at the faculty.
Currently, I am associate professor and the chair of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department at the American University of Kurdistan and leading the department to its first accreditation.
