DIR. CARL IVAN B. VILLANUEVA, CHE, MAS currently serves as the Director of University of Batangas Distance Education. A dedicated academic and decorated adviser, he has built a career marked by a commitment to lifelong learning and excellence in educational management and campus journalism.

He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Major in Educational Management, with Cum Laude honors from the University of Batangas Graduate School. Furthering his expertise in regional studies, he holds a Master of ASEAN Studies from the University of the Philippines Open University, where his thesis focused on designing social protection programs for Filipino teachers in Indonesia and Vietnam. His multidisciplinary academic pursuits also include units toward a Doctor of Philosophy in Southeast Asian Studies from Centro Escolar University – Manila and two years of study for a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the UB College of Law.

Dir. Villanueva has consistently sought to broaden his global perspective through professional development, earning scholarships for online programs in Organizational Analysis from Stanford University (2020) and Diplomatic Relations from the University of London (2019). He also completed the Online Distance Learning and Management Course from De La Salle University, Manila, Remote Teaching and Learning at the UPOU MOOCS, equipping him with the necessary skills for his current directorship.

His passion for mentorship is evident in his extensive and successful career as a coach and school paper adviser. As a debate coach, he led his team to back-to-back championships in the President’s Cup. His leadership as the adviser for The Westernian Pioneer has resulted in numerous accolades. His students have achieved national and regional championships in Online Publishing and Collaborative Desktop Publishing in both English and Filipino.

Individually, Dir. Villanueva has been granted Certified Hyflex Educator (CHE) by the Global Professional Advancement and recently awarded of Certified E-Learning Professional (CeLP) by the Philippine E-Learning Society. He also co-authored numerous researches focused on Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) where he presented their papers in the National and International Conferences. 

Dir. Villanueva actively contributes to his professional communities as the Institutional Representative of the University of Batangas in the Philippine E-learning Society (PeLS) and as a member of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer of the ASEAN Studies Association of the Philippines (ASAP).
