
Dr. Naglaa Sami Abdelaziz Mahmoud is a scholar in interior architecture and an Associate Professor at Ajman University, UAE. Her research focuses on sensory environments, lighting, acoustics, and user-centered interior design. She is the designer of the award-winning Lighting and Acoustics Lab at Ajman University, which earned her the LIT Lighting Design Award in 2024. She serves on the editorial board of Sage Open and is an active reviewer for the Journal of Interior Design. Dr. Naglaa publishes widely in internationally indexed journals and plays a leading role in shaping culturally responsive and environmentally focused interior design education.

Sami Abdelaziz Mahmoud is an Associate Professor of Interior Design
at Ajman University, with over 30 years of experience in teaching, research,
and academic leadership. She earned her Ph.D. from Helwan University and École
Camondo in Paris, with a focus on integrated lighting and acoustic strategies
in interior spaces. Her teaching portfolio spans undergraduate and graduate
levels, covering specialized courses such as Lighting & Acoustics, Islamic
Interiors, Environmental Psychology, and Graduation Projects.
Dr. Naglaa has led curriculum
development and quality assurance initiatives across institutions, notably
establishing Ajman University's Lighting and Acoustics Lab, which was
recognized with the LIT Lighting Design Award in 2024 for its
innovative educational and sensory impact. Her research addresses
sustainable living, wellness in interior spaces, and cultural identity, with
publications in Buildings, Frontiers in Built Environment,
and Architectural Science Review.
She serves on the editorial board of Sage
Open and regularly reviews for Scopus-indexed journals.
Her professional affiliations include ICOM, ICCROM, IDEC, APID, and IFI.
Throughout her career, she has supervised award-winning student projects and
continues to shape the discourse on interior design education in the Middle
East.
