Nuno Biga de Almeida holds a first degree (five-year course) in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon (1990). He completed with merit a Business Management Programme at AESE Business School - a postgraduate course taught in partnership with the University of Navarra and IESE Business School (1997). He holds a MSc degree in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Construction Sciences from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (2001). He developed a PhD thesis on Construction Management at the same University and he was awarded the degree of Doctor in Civil Engineering, achieved with the highest grade – approved by unanimity, with distinction and honour ("Strategic Inducers for Value Creation in Organisations", 2008). He began his professional activity in September 1990, and since then has sought to develop multidisciplinary skills in technical and management areas. His professional career is marked by 3 main periods: ▪ 1990 to 2001 - Project Management in the civil construction and public works sector in a prestigious Portuguese company founded in 1947. Director and Construction Coordinator, responsible for the management of building construction, road and rail infrastructures and special works. ▪ 2001 to 2011 - Director of Quality and Human Resources at the company where he began his professional career in 1990 and Visiting Assistant Professor at the University where he obtained his doctorate. ▪ 2010 to the present day - Visiting Professor at University and Polytechnic higher education institutions, Senior Teaching Fellow at a Business School and multidisciplinary Consultant with applied research activity. He has more than 20 years of experience on carrying out scientific research in areas related to engineering and management (e.g. construction planning and methods, cross modal transport infrastructures, process optimisation and management, organisational models, and skills management). Since 2001 he has been teaching in engineering related areas, including project management, operations, technology and innovation, seeking to promote the connection between academia and various sectors of the economy. He has a Certificate of Pedagogical Skills issued by the Portuguese Institute of Employment and Professional Training, with a rating of Excellent. He was responsible for various curricular units in university and polytechnic higher education.

The company Bigadvantage Consultants, which he founded in 2010 and has run since then, has won several national and international awards, including Best 5% of Portuguese SMEs and Multidisciplinary Consultancy Company of the Year. The complementarity between the various activities carried since 1990 to the present enabled him to acquire and develop further multidisciplinary skills through the integration of experiences and knowledge. In 2015 he started a process of design and development Business Serious Games for implementation in academic and business environment, simulating organizational models applicable in various economic activity sectors. The Business Interactive Games BIGAMES© simulation games have been distinguished at international management and engineering conferences (from 2019 to 2022). BIGAMES© were honoured in 2023/24 with an international award for "Innovation in Managerial Educational Solutions". In 2023 he was member of the jury for the "Reimagine Education" programme promoted by QS Quacquarelly Symonds in association with Wharton University (Pennsylvania). He has additional training in several areas relevant to his professional activity, namely Quality Audits, BIM (Building Information Modelling) Management, RealEstate Valuation, Project Management, ISO 9001 and 14001 Standards, Negotiation Techniques, among others. His interest in health management, present in the activities of teaching since 2015 in advanced management courses for senior managers of health institutions, consulting in companies operating in that sector and development of management simulators in hospital emergency, motivated him to carry out in 2023 the international course of "Medical Response to Major Incidents".
