Academic Background

He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico – University of Lisbon in 1990, the year in which he began his professional career. In 1997, he completed the 13th Business Management Program at AESE Business School. Since 2001, he has held a Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Construction Sciences from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra and, since 2009, a PhD in Civil Engineering from the same university, specializing in Value Creation in Organizations.

Civil Construction and Public Works

During his professional career, he has gained experience in the Civil Construction and Public Works sector, holding positions as Director in the areas of Production, Quality, and Human Resources. As Construction Director, between 1991 and 2001, he was responsible for the construction of various building, road, and railway projects. He was responsible for several structural projects in the fields of Quality Management Systems and Systems Certification, Skills Development, and Professional Training.

Teaching

He has been teaching since 2001 as a guest lecturer at several universities and polytechnic institutions. He was responsible for several courses in the areas of economics, management, and civil engineering at the University of Coimbra and the Leiria School of Technology and Management. Since 2008, he has been Senior Teaching Fellow of Operations, Technology, and Innovation at AESE Business School. In the 2024/2025 Global Awards, he was distinguished as “Business Management & Education of the Year” (CLW, UK).

Scientific Guidance and Supervision

Between 2010 and 2016, he was Technical and Scientific Supervisor at ITeCons - University of Coimbra. He has supervised master's and doctoral dissertations at higher education institutions, been a member of the scientific committee of several national and international conferences, and is a scientific reviewer of published articles.

Research Activity

He conducts applied research in areas related to value creation in organizations, namely organizational models, skills management, and process optimization. He is the author of several scientific articles presented at national and international conferences, including publications in journals. He has designed several Serious Games that simulate different organizational realities. For two consecutive years, BIGAMES© has been awarded the “Innovation in Managerial Education Solutions” distinction (UK).

Consulting Activity

He is a Founding Partner and, since 2010, Executive Director of Bigadvantage Consultores, where he provides consulting services to public and private entities in different sectors of economic activity, in industry and services. He has been responsible for dozens of consulting projects. For two consecutive years (2023, 2024), his company was considered one of the 5% Best Portuguese SMEs, and was recently distinguished as “Multidisciplinary Consultancy of the Year” and “Best Technical and Management Consulting Firm” at the Global Excellence Awards.
