Dr. Lyman currently works freelance on projects pertaining to occupational therapy while enjoying retirement. Over her 30-year academic career she has held positions of associate dean, director of admissions, program director, academic fieldwork coordinator, and tenured professor along with chairing numerous academic, curricular, and administrative committees including an Associate Dean’s Council. She holds the title of Emeritus Professor with the Salt Lake Community College. Dr. Lyman spent 2-terms/4 years as the President of Utah Occupational Therapy Association and has over 40 years clinical experience as an occupational therapist. Because of her extensive clinical and academic background, she was elected by the Commission for the Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) Executive Committee of the Board and Central Panel as a Commissioner and served as an on-site college physical therapy program reviewer. She has held positions with the National Board for the Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) on the Certification Examination Development and Validation Committee and as certification exam item writer. Dr. Lyman is also an accreditation reviewer for the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). In 2024, the American Occupational Therapy Association honored Dr. Lyman with a Fellow award for “advancing the profession through strong leadership”. Dr. Lyman is a first-generation college graduate having grown up in a small rural farming community in Nebraska. Although accomplished, she connects with people from all walks of life and lived experiences. Dr. Lyman is a dog & horse owner, mother of five, and grandmother of eight.
