With more than 30 years of frontline experience building entrepreneurship ecosystems across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, advancing innovation in higher education, and nurturing young talent, Donny Siu is a recognized benchmark figure in university innovation and entrepreneurship.
He currently serves as Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship and Incubation Centre (CPO) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). Prior to this, he led EdUHK’s Global Affairs Office and STEAM Education and Innovation Centre, driving the university’s internationalization and the deep integration of innovation and technology education with strong, measurable results.
Before joining EdUHK, Donny dedicated over 30 years to The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he single-handedly built its world-class entrepreneurship ecosystem. He is widely known as the “Father of Hackathons” in the Greater Bay Area and was honored by WHub as a “Hong Kong Startup Ecosystem Community Builder / Leader”.

At HKUST: Architect of a World‑Class Startup Ecosystem
- Pioneered Hong Kong’s first large‑scale mainland internship program for university students (2003), placing 1,500+ HKUST students over 6 years and setting a precedent for cross‑border career development.
- Founded Greater China’s largest hackUST and hardUST hackathons, creating a gold standard for tech innovation competitions in Hong Kong.
- Built a full‑chain incubation system that nurtured 600+ startups in 10 years; during his tenure, 9 unicorn companies and 11 potential unicorns emerged from HKUST.
- Earned two HKUST President’s Commendations and the HKUST 30‑Year Long Service Award (2021) for outstanding leadership and problem‑solving.
At EdUHK: Catalyst for Internationalization & Educational Innovation
- Led EdUHK’s international strategy, sharply increasing non‑local student enrollment and directly helping EdUHK enter the global Top 200 (THE World University Rankings 2026, 195) for the first time in its history.
