
Dr. Catalina Olivas is a mentor and researcher at the Institute for the Future of Education at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Monterrey Campus, and a visiting professor in the Doctoral Program in Education at the Catholic University of Manizales in Colombia. She holds a PhD in Educational Innovation from the University of Sonora and a Certification in "Women in Leadership" from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Certification “Mujeres Líderes by Santander Mexico, DALIA, Universidad Insurgentes, and Santander. In 2023, she received an Honorable Mention by the Swedish Embassy in Mexico and the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, under UNESCO, for her tutoring, guidance, and research aid to the Premio Nacional Juvenil del Agua winners. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, presented at national and international conferences, and served on technical committees and juries at both national and international conferences and competitions. Since 2022, she has been a judge at the QS Reimagine Education Awards and STEM Olympics (Tlaxcala, Mexico) since 2023. Her research inquires into creative and innovative processes, leadership practices, and the participation of girls and women in STEM. She was a mentor in the “Women Mentoring in STEM” Program, in collaboration with the state of Nuevo Leon and Tec de Monterrey. Dr. Olivas is a member of the Sustainability Academic Network (SUSAN), of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), International Division; a senior mentor of the Acumenous Women-Empowerment in Intelligent Systems and Entrepreneurship (AWEiSE) in the United Kingdom; member of the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI); and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is currently a Region 9 Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Monterrey.
