Manickam Govindaraju, APR, is a Senior Lecturer at the School
of Media and Communication, Taylor’s University, Malaysia, with over 20 years
of academic and industry experience in strategic communication, crisis
communication, political communication, media studies, leadership, and higher
education innovation.
An Accredited Public Relations (APR)
practitioner, Dr Manickam has established an international reputation for
integrating industry engagement with innovative teaching and learning. Her
expertise has been recognised through keynote invitations at RUSET 2024 in
Bogor, Indonesia, and the MJAA Symposium 2025 at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan. She
was also a Bronze Award recipient at the ASEAN PR Network Awards 2023.
Committed to advancing authentic, industry-driven
education, Dr Manickam has mentored student teams that have secured numerous
national and international public relations awards through School of Media and Communication, Taylor’s
University's ProPassion consultancy programme. Her own educational innovations
have been recognised with multiple medals at the International University
Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL), the Exemplary Meritorious Academic Staff Award
from Taylor’s University, finalist recognition for Malaysia's Minister of
Higher Education's Special Award for Innovative Curriculum Design and Delivery
(AKRI), and the Asia Education Conclave 2025 Award for Innovation in Teaching.
Beyond academia, Dr Manickam actively contributes
to the advancement of higher education and professional practice through
international collaborations, research, curriculum innovation, and academic
leadership. She currently serves as President of the Malaysia-Japan Academic
Association (MJAA), Selangor Chapter, where she promotes scholarly partnerships
and educational exchange between Malaysia and Japan.
