
Ts. Jonathan JS Kovilpillai is the Program Manager of the
Digital Learning Hub at the Asia Pacific University of Technology &
Innovation (APU) and also the Program Manager for the APU UNESCO Chair on Harnessing
Innovations in Technology to Support Teachers and Quality Learning. With over
two decades of experience in higher education, he specializes in advancing
generative AI, digital learning design, and technology-enhanced pedagogy to
strengthen curriculum innovation, assessment practices, and educator development.
Mr Kovilpillai has led regional and international
capacity-building initiatives across Asia and Africa, including UNESCO- and
World Bank-supported programmes, training thousands of educators in the ethical
and effective integration of educational technologies. His expertise spans
AI-enabled instructional design, asynchronous and blended learning,
micro-credentials, quality assurance in digital education, and
technology-supported teacher professional development.
At APU, he has played a leading role in developing
institutional approaches to responsible AI adoption in education, including the
Traffic Light Protocol for AI-assisted assessments and the development of the
AI Grader plugin for the university’s LMS ecosystem. He also chaired the
organising committee for the ASEAN Stakeholder Summit on Generative AI for
Education in 2024 and 2025, bringing together educators, policymakers,
researchers, and industry leaders to advance regional dialogue on AI in
education.
Actively engaged in international collaborations, research, and policy dialogues, Mr Kovilpillai’s work focuses on creating practical, scalable, and inclusive learning ecosystems that enable institutions and educators to harness emerging technologies responsibly and sustainably.
