Jovanna Nathalie Cervantes Guzmán is an Honorary Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia, ranked among the top 1% of universities worldwide. She is also a Lecturer B in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and course developer at The University of Adelaide. Dr. Cervantes Guzmán completed her Ph.D. at Queensland University of Technology, where her research focused on fostering female entrepreneurship in Bio-MedTech. Her doctoral thesis, supervised by Dietmar W. Hutmacher and Shane Mathews, was nominated for the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award. She also holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management and a Ph.D. in Management Sciences from University of Guadalajara, with research focused on neuromarketing and neuroeconomics. Currently, she serves as a professor at the University of Guadalajara (CUCEA) and as a sessional academic at Griffith University and Queensland University of Technology.

Dr. Cervantes Guzmán has participated in entrepreneurship and innovation programs at Boston University, Arizona State University, and Queensland University of Technology. As an entrepreneur, she is the CEO and co-founder of the brand Atellier Organic and the founder of EVA Academy, an initiative dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs in vulnerable sectors through programs supported by the U.S. Department of State, IREX, and Arizona State University.

Her entrepreneurial achievements include being a finalist in the Creative Industries category at the TIC Jalisco 2021 organized by Young Americas Business Trust and the Organization of American States. She also won the Women and Business Contest at the Pacific Trade Show 2019 in Toronto. Additionally, she was selected for the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative 2020–2021 by the U.S. Department of State and IREX, recognizing emerging social and business entrepreneurs across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. She was also invited by YABT and the OAS as an entrepreneurship delegate to the IX Summit of the Americas.

As an academic and innovation leader, Dr. Cervantes Guzmán was selected for the Santander X Entrepreneurship Educators Program by Santander and Oxentia from the University of Oxford, where she presented an entrepreneurship program designed to encourage innovation among university students. She was also selected as a IMF Youth Fellow 2021 and became a finalist in the Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of the Year 2021 in the Future Learning category. Furthermore, she was a finalist in the Inter-American Prize in Innovative Educational Models in Higher Education 2022.

In 2025, she was recognized by Expansión Magazine as one of the “30 Promises of Business 2025,” highlighting her as one of Mexico’s emerging innovation leaders. She was also selected for the VV Visionaries Program 2024 by Vital Voices and the Estée Lauder Emerging Leaders Fund, recognizing 50 women leaders worldwide for their contributions to social change.

Her research project on women’s entrepreneurship in Bio-MedTech, developed in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology, Monash University, and ARC CTET, has received international recognition. The project participated in the Youth Solutions Program 2022, was a finalist in the University Startup World Cup 2022, and was selected by the Queens Commonwealth Trust. It also won the Audience Award at Falling Walls Brisbane 2023 and the People’s Choice Award at the Three Minute Thesis Competition 2024 at Queensland University of Technology. In addition, she was selected as a fellow and presenter at the HPAIR Harvard Conference 2024 organized by the Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations.

Beyond academia and entrepreneurship, Dr. Cervantes Guzmán serves as a mentor for international NGOs based in the United States, focusing on initiatives that promote women’s entrepreneurship. As a researcher, she has published articles and book chapters in internationally indexed journals and currently serves as an associate editor for an international journal indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. She is also a member of Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNI CONAHCYT), a distinction awarded through peer evaluation that recognizes excellence, prestige, and significant contributions to scientific research, technological development, and innovation.
