Prof. Rao holds a PhD in management from the University of Hyderabad, India; Diploma in Training & Development from Indian Society for Training and Development, New Delhi;  Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management  from Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Anand; Post Gradaute Diploma in Statistical Quality Control and Operations Research from Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata and Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
