Dr Michael Daly is an academic cardiologist whose interests include multimodality cardiovascular imaging, electrocardiography, biomechanical modelling of structural heart disease, medical humanities, and healthcare education. In addition to international accreditations in cardiac CT and echocardiography, Dr Daly also holds an MA in Creative Writing focusing on drama, an MD by research in Medical Education, and a PhD in Cardiology. Currently, he is a Consultant Cardiologist in Dublin, Senior Lecturer at RCSI, and Visiting Professor at Ulster University. In 2022, he was named Most Innovative Teacher of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards in London, UK, for his post-doctoral work that improved medical students’ clinical cardiology acumen through whole-task hybrid simulations. In 2023, he was awarded both a Fulbright Scholarship to Stanford University’s Centre for Immersive and Simulation-based Learning (CISL) to explore how narratology might augment simulated clinical experiences and the Silver Award in the Breakthrough Technology Innovation in Education category at the global QS Reimagine Education Awards. Dr Daly is currently an elected Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology, and the Royal College of Physicians in both Ireland and London; he is also Associate Editor at Academic Medicine and JACC Case Reports, is on the Editorial Board of BMJ Medical Humanities, the Advisory Board of JACC Journals, and is an accredited member of the Writers Guild of Ireland.
