Professor Dr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, FIMMM, FRSC, CSci, CMatP, CChem, is a distinguished Bangladeshi academic, materials engineer, and institution builder whose over 25-year career has left an indelible mark on mechanical engineering, tribology, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy. As a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur, he has risen through the ranks to hold the highest leadership positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Head of Industrial and Production Engineering, and Director (Research and Extension), where he has been instrumental in shaping the university's research strategy and infrastructure. His research stature is globally recognized by his consistent inclusion in Stanford University's list of the Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide for four consecutive years (2022–2025), a testament to his 250+ publications, h-index of 46, i10-index of 136, and over 8,674 citations. He is an elected Full Member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society (whose alumni include Einstein and Curie), a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM, UK), and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, UK). He holds the prestigious Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Chartered Chemist (CChem) designations, is a Certified Materials Professional (CMatP) of Materials Australia, and is a registered expert evaluator for the European Commission (Horizon Europe) and the US National Science Foundation (NSF).
Professor Chowdhury's research impact spans advanced energy storage (Li-ion and Mg-ion batteries, hydrogen storage), 2D materials (graphene, borophene, MXenes), green corrosion inhibitors, bioplastics, and MAX phases. His scholarly work has received global recognition, including his article *"Creation of a boron carbide-based Ti₃AlBC (312) MAX phase: a route to novel MXenes for energy storage"* being indexed and recognized in the Nature Index under Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology's (DUET) global research outputs, signifying its high-impact contribution to materials science and energy storage. Additionally, his COVID-19 immune response review has been archived by the World Health Organization (WHO). He has been recognized by the Eni Award Scientific Commission (the "Nobel Prize of Energy Research"), received the ASME Career Support Award (2025), and earned a Certificate of Excellence in Research from DUET (2025). His editorial leadership is unparalleled: he serves on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), PLOS ONE, Tribology in Industry, Industrial Lubrication and Tribology (Emerald), Energy Exploration & Exploitation (SAGE), and is a Founding Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reviews (Nature Portfolio, 2026). He has also guest-edited special issues for Sustainability (MDPI), Advances in Fuzzy Systems (Wiley), and the Journal of Biomaterials and Applied Functional Materials (SAGE). Beyond publishing, he has authored or edited 8 books, including Shape Memory Alloys and Carbon Nanomaterials, and contributed 6 book chapters. As a Principal Investigator and Project Director, he has secured multiple research grants from the University Grant Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and a newly awarded project from the Hydrocarbon Unit on heteroatom-doped graphene anodes; he also served as mentor for a World Bank-funded Hyperloop project and is a project member on a $5.35 million World Bank-supported fire safety initiative. A hands-on innovator, he has designed and fabricated over 15 advanced research instruments, including a multi-axis vibration tribometer, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) unit, erosion test rigs, microbial fuel cells, and an electrochemical exfoliation unit. His dedication to mentorship is evidenced by his supervision of 5 awarded PhD scholars, 44 MSc/MEngg theses, and nearly 250 undergraduate projects, along with academic advising for over 200 students.

His professional service is extensive: he has chaired technical sessions for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at the prestigious ASME Energy Sustainability Conference 2025 in Westminster, Colorado, USA (Session 14: Carbon Capture & Cleaner Fossil Fuel Technologies), as well as at the International Conference on Mechanical Engineering (ICME) in Khulna, the 2nd International Conference on Mechanical, Manufacturing and Process Engineering (ICMMPE 2024 and 2022), the 1st International Conference on Science and Humanities for Sustainable Development (ICSHSD-2025) at DUET, and the International Conference on Mechanical, Manufacturing and Process Engineering (ICMMPE 2026) where he chaired two technical sessions and evaluated papers for Best Paper Award selection and AIP Conference Proceedings screening. He has also served on the scientific committee for CMEME 2025 at the University Mohamed Khider of Biskra, Algeria, acted as an international peer reviewer for Chile's FONDECYT Initiation Grants, evaluated research proposals for multiple Bangladeshi universities (CUET, RUET, BUET), and been a panel reviewer for BANBEIS (Ministry of Education). On the international stage, Professor Chowdhury serves as the Bangladesh Representative (Support-Topic 1) for SusChem, the European Sustainable Chemistry Network (2025–present), where he participates in community discussions on sustainable chemistry and innovation alongside international members. He holds prestigious Honorary Research Fellowships at INTI International University, Malaysia (2023–2025, renewed 2025–2028), a recognition of his sustained research impact and global academic engagement. He further served as an Invited Expert Evaluator for the Metascience Novelty Indicators Project, a UK government initiative led by the University of Sussex and the UK Government Metascience Unit (DSIT/UKRI), providing expert assessment of research publications in Nanotechnology and Plant Sciences to support the development of research policy and novelty indicators. His international recognition also includes being an Invited Academic Participant for the QS Academic Reputation Survey through King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia (2025–2026), and receiving repeated institutional acknowledgment from INTI International University for his engagement in QS Academic Reputation Survey-related activities. A committed mentor and institution builder, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and a life member of the Bangladesh Physical Society (BPS). Through his pioneering research, global editorial leadership, active role as an ASME session chair, representation on the European Sustainable Chemistry Network, honorary research fellowships in Malaysia, registered expertise with the European Commission and NSF, international peer review for Chile and the UK government, mentorship of hundreds of students and scholars, and design of advanced laboratory infrastructure, Professor Dr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury has not only advanced the frontiers of materials science but also built enduring capacity for innovation in Bangladesh and across the international academic community.
