SENIOR LECTURER
UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA
Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hilmy Naim bin Mohd Yakin is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Structure & Materials at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. In his academic capacity, he teaches core subjects such as Structural Analysis and Advanced Structural Analysis to fourth-year undergraduate students and Master's degree students. He is an active researcher whose core expertise includes Structural Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Computational Mechanics, Finite Element Methods (FEM), Meshless Methods, and Peridynamics. His current research focuses heavily on innovative approaches to enhance the understanding and application of Peridynamics and structural analysis.

Dr. Mohd Hilmy's academic journey began with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering with Honours from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2012. He then secured funding through the Graduate Excellence Programme (GReP) Mara to pursue a Master in Engineering (Structure) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), graduating with a CGPA of 3.73 in 2014. Following his Master's degree, he transitioned into the industry, working as an Engineer in the Bridge & Marine Division at Minconsult Sdn. Bhd. from March 2014 to October 2015. Returning to academia, he earned his PhD in Engineering (GOT) from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) in 2024. His doctoral research was supported by the Scholarship Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Terengganu and the Doctorate Research Scheme (DRS) UMPSA.

He holds notable professional credentials, being registered as a Professional Engineer with BEM (Membership no: P124661) and a Professional Technologist with MBOT (Membership no: PT23080086). An accomplished academic communicator, he won first place at both the University and National Level 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competitions in 2021. His innovative work also earned him a Bronze Medal at the Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition 2023 (CITREX2023), and he was invited as a Guest Speaker for Universiti Malaysia Pahang's Faculty Colloquium in January 2024.

His scholarly footprint includes impactful publications in WOS and SCOPUS-indexed journals and conferences. His recent published work heavily explores quasi-brittle damage models and the effects of particle discretization using bond-based peridynamics theory, with articles appearing in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (2023), JMES (2021), and the ICMER conference proceedings (2021). He also contributed research on these topics at Loughborough University conferences in 2021. He is proficient in both English and Malay.
