
Simon is an educational innovator and academic leader with extensive experience in enhancing teaching and learning through strategic use of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI). As a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA), his work has focused on improving student success and wellbeing through innovative educational practices.
In nearly two decades at UNSW Sydney, including roles such as Director of Educational Innovation in the Pro Vice-Chancellor Portfolio and Associate Dean Education at the School of Art & Design, he led initiatives such as the Academic Success Monitor (ASM), which used AI to provide personalised student support. ASM received global recognition, including Gold awards at both the QS Reimagine Education and Gartner Eye on Innovation awards.
Simon's professional development resources - including MOOCs, open educational resources, and educational YouTube channels - have reached over 1.2 million learners worldwide. These resources reflect his commitment to technology-enhanced learning, immersive educational experiences, and collaborative institutional projects aimed at improving educational quality and outcomes.
Throughout his career, I have managed large-scale, cross-institutional initiatives to enhance teaching quality, develop AI literacy among educators, and shape digital learning environments. Simon's goal is to continue contributing to impactful educational practices that prioritise student-centred learning and technological innovation.
