
Dr. Ulviyya Abbasova is a distinguished academic
leader, strategist, researcher and linguist with over 20 years of experience in
higher education management and international institutional development. She
currently serves as an Associate Professor and the Advisor to the Rector on
Rankings at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). In this
role, she leads the university’s strategic integration into global academic
frameworks and oversees its performance across various international ranking
systems, including QS World University Rankings, UI GreenMetric Rankings, THE
World University Rankings and others. Her expertise focuses on international
relations and global academic positioning, and she leads initiatives aimed at
improving the university’s standing in these rankings.
Her career achievements include winning the “Teacher
of the Year” competition in 2015, awarded in accordance with Presidential
Decree No. 2373 for outstanding pedagogical contribution, being appointed
Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation and the Interreligious
and International Federation for World Peace, obtaining CELTA (QCF)
certifications from both Oxford English Language Assessment in 2016 and
Cambridge English Language Assessment in 2015, coordinating the Erasmus+ PETRA
Project in 2018, participating as a member of the UniLab Project in 2015 within
the Erasmus+ framework, serving as an international representative for the “One
Road One Belt” initiative in 2016 where she represented Baku Slavic University
in China through the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China,
being recognized by Cambridge International Examinations for IC GSE English as
a Second Language, and participating in the II Moscow Forum as a “Young
Lecturer” focused on professional standards and development vectors.
Her education and training include a Doctor of
Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Philology obtained in 2016, a Master’s Degree in
Translation from the Azerbaijan University of Languages completed between 2000
and 2002, a Specialist Qualification as an English teacher for high schools
obtained between 2010 and 2011 at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Translation from the Azerbaijan University of Languages
earned between 1996 and 2000, specializing as a linguist-translator in the English
language.
