Dr. Zaid Altaany is an Ass. Professor of Medical Biotechnology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Sharjah, UAE. He holds a PhD in Medical Biotechnology from Lakehead University, Canada, and has completed two prestigious postdoctoral fellowships: one in Biochemistry at Western University, Canada, and another in Responsible Conduct of Research and Research Ethics at the University of California, San Diego, USA.

Dr. Altaany’s research focuses on obesity genetics, gasotransmitters including hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide, oxidative stress, post-translational modifications, cell signalling, molecular diagnostics, and global public health. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific papers, received more than 21,000 citations, and has an h-index of over 30.

In addition to his research, Dr. Altaany is actively involved in health sciences education, curriculum development, academic leadership, and mentoring early-career researchers. He has served as a committee member, expert, reviewer, and examiner for various academic promotion committees, research funding agencies, and international scientific journals, contributing to the evaluation of research proposals, academic portfolios, manuscripts, and scholarly achievements.

Dr. Altaany is passionate about research collaboration, scientific integrity, and supporting emerging researchers in developing their research skills, confidence, and academic careers. He is particularly committed to fostering a culture of research excellence through mentorship, collaboration, and the sharing of practical research experience.
